Globe assists Iligan communities hit by Agaton

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In response to the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Agaton, telecommunications company Globe Telecom has set up a Libreng Tawag station as well as provided relief operations in Iligan City.

Iligan was among the cities and municipalities that declared a state of calamity when Agaton triggered massive flooding in low-lying areas and communities adjacent to rivers and tributaries.

Globe offered free calls at the covered court of Purok Bayanihan in the village of Mahayahay and distributed food packs to 201 families in the area.

Aside from Mahayahay, relief operations were held at in the villages of Buru-un and Tambacan for 399 and 200 families, respectively.

The three barangays were among the most affected in Iligan City, with Buru-un almost submerged when the Linamom River overflowed.

The same thing happened when the Tambacan and Mahayahay Rivers overflowed, flooding the two villages.
