Cop killed in shootout with policemen in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman allegedly involved in kidnap for ransom and car theft activities was killed in a predawn shootout with fellow policemen in Quezon City on Monday.

Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano said that Police Officer 1 Reniel Abogado was killed during an encounter with authorities in Payatas area.

Albano said that Abogado was involved in an auto theft at the corner of Regalado and Dahlia streets in Fairview at around 3:30 a.m.

Policemen following-up the incident chanced upon and traded shots with Abogado on board a motorcycle along Payatas Road near Violago Subdivision at around 4:15 a.m.

Police recovered a .45 pistol from the suspect, who is allegely involved in criminal activities including kidnapping for ransom.
