3 killed in Quezon, Cagayan road mishaps

SARIAYA, Quezon, Philippines – Two men on a motorcycle were killed after a van reportedly rear-ended them in this town, while a pregnant woman was killed in another collision involving two motorcycles in Isabela on Wednesday night.

Angelito Patasin, 23, and his companion Ben Bryan Patasin, 26, were declared dead on arrival at the Greg Hospital in Sariaya, according to Superintendent Joel de Mesa, town police chief.

The victims were traveling along the highway in Barangay Lutucan when an Isuzu Elf van driven by Michael Timagos, 34, bumped them. Timagos was arrested after the accident.

In Isabela, Brenda Tadena, 21, and an eight months pregnant, was killed while her husband Jerson was injured when a motorcycle hit them in Roxas town, said town police chief Chief Inspector Nelson Vallejo.

Vallejo said the couple was on their way home on a motorcycle when another motorcycle driven by Pepito Bernabe, 24, hit them along Barangay Nuesa.

Police arrested Bernabe, who was reportedly drunk during the incident.

Meanwhile, a tricycle driver and three students were hurt when a pick-up truck rammed their vehicle in Cagayan on Tuesday.

Jayrun Taggada, 39, and his passengers Joan Kaye Salino, Renlee Aglamma and Jay Tagaoa, were taken to the Sta. Praxedes rural clinic for treatment of injuries. They were later transferred to the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC) in Batac, Ilocos Norte where they were said to be in serious condition, according to Senior Police Officer 3 Sanny Burigsay of the town police.

Reports said the victims’ vehicle was traveling in the town of Sta. Praxedes when a Mitsubishi Estrada pick-up truck owned by the MMMHMC collided with them.
