MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Ambassador to Canada Leslie Gatan on Tuesday said that the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras could invite more investors because of its big potentials in investment and tourism.
“We look up at some competitive advantage of what this region could offer which could not be offered by other regions in the country," Gatan said during the investment fair forum with more than 300 Filipino-Canadian delegates at the Royal Garden Hall Convention Center IN Iloilo City.
Gatan said the tour, which is under the tourism project of the Local Government Support Program (LGSP) by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI), aims to promote tourism and investment potentials of different regions in the country.
He said the delegates are in the city to study the tourism investment of Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council especially those projects under the Local Governance Support Program for Local Economic Development (LGSP-LED).
The LGSP-LED is an eight-year collaborative project of the governments of Canada and the Philippines starting from 2008 up to 2016.
The goal of the program is to foster efficient, responsive, transparent and accountable governance at all levels while the purpose is to reduce poverty by strengthening local governance and support sustainable local economic development.
The program aims to provide environment for local government units (LGUs) and improve prospects for local economic development in various communities.
