Mindanao floods, landslides death toll now at 24

MANILA, Philippines - The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Wednesday said the total number people killed due to non-stop rains in parts of Mindanao is 24.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said  there were 36 persons injured and 12 people missing in regions 9, 10, 11, and Caraga where incidents of flashfloods and landslides were recorded.

The NDRRMC said that almost 63,000 families or nearly 300,000 persons were affected by the low pressure area in 58 municipalities and 14 municipalities of the four regions.

A total of 608 houses were damaged by flashfloods and landslides, 235 of which were totally destroyed, the state disaster response agency said.

The NDRRMC said that eight bridges and five public structures in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental were also damaged. A total of 8,284 hectares of crops were destroyed in Davao Oriental.

Meanwhile, as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, the NDRRMC reported more than 1,000 passengers were stranded by the bad weather in different ports and terminals in the affected areas.
