DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Former mayor Sara Duterte, daughter of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, was fined after she was caught driving over the speed limit Monday.
The former mayor was reportedly caught driving her Subaru sport utility vehicle at 57 kilometers per hour along Quimpo Boulevard, where the speed limit was supposed to be at 40 kph.
The speed limit was set under Executive Order 39, signed in October last year by the mayor himself, who earlier refused calls for a speed limit higher than the 30, 40, and 60 kph imposed on the city’s main roads, within downtown area and a short distance away from the central business district, respectively.
The elder Duterte insisted on the lower speed limit, pointing out that it would help lessen vehicular accidents caused by reckless driving and over speeding.
The younger Duterte was reportedly flagged down by traffic aide Michael Villareal, who was using a speed gun, when her vehicle registered a speed of 57 kph within the 40-kph zone.
She reportedly allowed her license to be confiscated, paid a fine, and complied with the ordinance to get back her license.
