Mindanao flood victims continue to get help from gov't - DSWD

MANILA, Philippines - People in Mindanao who have been affected by flooding continue to get help from the national and local governments, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said on Tuesday.

The DSWD said that as of Tuesday noon,  a total of  23,442 food packs amounting to about P5.9 million have been provided by the DSWD to victims in Davao Oriental and Davao del Norte.

Meanwhile, a total of P272,023 worth of relief assistance has been extended by concerned local government units in Caraga, the DSWD added. 

The DSWD said that about 220 evacuation centers remain open in the affected regions providing temporary shelter to 20,005 families or 95,637 persons while 5,086 families or 25,373 persons outside the evacuation centers are also given relief assistance.

Davao Region has the most number of evacuees with 11,537 families or 57,356 persons. They have been initially assisted by the LGUs, the DSWD said. 

DSWD-Field Office 10 reported that 198 houses were damaged in Davao Oriental while 18 were destroyed in Compostela Valley.

DSWD teams continue to coordinate with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and LGUs for possible assistance that may be required.
