LPA may stay in Visayas

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The low pressure area (LPA) that has been dumping rains in Mindanao will stay in the Visayas for one to two days, a state meteorologist said on Monday afternoon.

In a phone-patch interview on ANC, weather forecaster Gener Quitlong of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said  forecast models do not indicate that the LPA will intensify into a tropical cyclone

"Subalit sa pinapakita po ngayon, medyo magtatagal po dito sa may Visayas, mga isa o dalawang araw pa diyan," Gener told ANC. "So magkakaroon pa rin ng mga pag-ulan diyan."

He said the northern and eastern Mindanao will still also experience rains due to the LPA.

Gener said the country's weather condition may improve by Friday or Saturday.

In its latest public weather forecast issued at 4 p.m., PAGASA said the LPA was located at 45 kilometers east of Dipolog City while the northeast monsoon continues to affect Northern and Central Luzon.

The weather bureau said the Visayas and the regions of northern Mindanao and Caraga will have cloudy skies with moderate to occasional heavy rains and thunderstorms that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

The Bicol region, Mimaropa and the rest of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be cloudy with isolated light rains.
