Comatose man nearly embalmed

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Apparently not knowing what comatose means, a family in Bago City, Negros Occidental instead brought a sick member to the funeral parlor.

Thankfully, workers at the funeral parlor found 27-year-old Rodolfo Caasi Jr. still alive and saved him from being embalmed, Bombo Radyo reported on Wednesday.

Caasi figured in a motorcycle accident last month and was admitted to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City. Lately, his doctors pronounced him comatose, reports said.

When the doctors told Caasi’s family that he was in a coma, the family asked the hospital personnel to remove his life-support system because they had no financial means to maintain it, and then brought him to the funeral parlor.

Caasi’s sister Lilibeth told Bombo Radyo that her brother is now recovering and can even move his lips.
