SPD: 66 firecracker injuries, 2 stray bullet victims
MANILA, Philippines - The Southern Police District (SPD) has recorded a total of 66 firecracker-related injury cases while, two persons were injured by stray bullets during the New Year's Eve revelry.
The SPD said 30 persons were injured by firecrackers in Pasay City, Makati (2), Parañaque (11), Las Piñas (20) and Muntinlupa (3). There were no reported firecracker-related injuries in Taguig and Pateros.
Meanwhile, the reported victims of stray bullets were each from Parañaque and Taguig, the SPD reported.
The stray bullet victim in Parañaque was identified by the SPD as 12-year old kid from Barangay Baclaran.
According to the SPD, Derutas was outside her house at midnight when the stray bullet hit her right elbow. She was rushed to the Dr. Bernabe Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment and was declared to be in stable condition at 2:18 a.m. Wednesday.
Anti-illegal fireworks operations by the SPD also led to the confiscation of 3,940 firecrackers during the hours before the New Year's Eve revelry.
