NORTH COTABATO, Philippines --- Suspected extremists blasted a fragmentation grenade near a Christian worship site in Carmen at dawn Monday, wounding five people and causing panic in surrounding villages.
Captain Tony Bulao, spokesman of the Army’s 602nd Brigade, said three men perpetrated the bombing.
One of the three suspects who arrived at the scene riding a motorcycle pulled out a grenade from his pocket and hurled the explosive near the chapel of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) in Barangay Ugalingan in Carmen and sped away.
The grenade went off not far from a house owned by the Tropa family, wounding four members, Amy, 53, and three minors - aged 16, and the other two, 12 and 6, now undergoing medication at a hospital. Another minor, 16, was also hurt in the attack.
Bulao said police investigators are trying to determine the identities of the bombers.
