Thieves rob Baguio City pawnshop

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY , Philippines   â€“ Thieves broke into a pawnshop by entering through a manhole leading to this city’s business district on Christmas Day.

The robbers, however, failed to open the vault of the Star Gold pawnshop and moneychanging shop on Carrantes street, according to Superintendent Andrew Cayad, spokesman for the city police.

The robbers, believed to be former miners, took away a laptop and a Play Station Portable.

Investigators believe the robbers entered through a manhole some 50 meters away to get to the pawnshop and bore a hole on the shop’s floor.

Police officers recovered crowbars and a chisel believed left behind by the robbers.

Cayad said the establishment has no closed-circuit television cameras.
