Village chief, family survive ambush

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines - – A village chairman and his family cheated death when armed men opened fire at their vehicle as they were on their way to attend Misa de Gallo (dawn mass) in Barangay Sabangan here on Monday.

Romeo Manuel Jr., 30, and his family were in a Toyota Revo vehicle when two motorcycle-riding gunmen shot them near the boundary of Barangay Domalandan at about 3:30 a.m.

Manuel and his companions were not hit but their vehicle sustained bullet holes.

Authorities have yet to determine the motive for the attack.
