Girl, 5, killed, 3 hurt in NLEX accident
MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – A five-year-old girl was killed and her three relatives were injured in a freak accident on the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) yesterday morning.
Superintendent Amelia Garcia, head of the Angeles City police traffic division identified the fatality as Tifanny Amad, a resident of Nueva Ecija.
Lourdes, 48, and Anjanneth, 12, both surnamed Amad, and Allan Mendoza were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Garcia said the incident occurred on the northbound lane of NLEX about one kilometer away from the Angeles toll plaza.
She said the Baliwag Transit bus (CXN-925) the victims were riding was about one kilometer away from the Angeles toll plaza when its driver identified as Medardo de la Cruz parked on the emergency parking bay to urinate.
The bus was about to leave when it was rear-ended by a dump truck (WRI-576) driven by Dindo Hipolito from Bulacan.
As the passengers were waiting to be transferred to another bus, a Mitsubishi Canter (TYF-814) that slowed down to check on the accident, suddenly swerved and mowed down the passengers on the side of the road.
Garcia said charges would be filed against the drivers if there would be no settlement with the family of the victims.
