Kidnappers free Japanese trader

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A Japanese businessman reportedly snatched by armed men in Parañaque City over the weekend, was released in Cavite on Tuesday.

Hayato Sumi, 42, was found in front of a fastfood outlet in General Mariano Alvarez town at about 1:30 p.m., said Chief Inspector Roselle Sijas of the Anti-kidnapping Group based in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Sijas refused to reveal details on Sumi’s release. He said investigation on the victim’s kidnapping was ongoing.

The kidnappers reportedly demanded P5 million in exchange for the victim’s release.
