MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Monday handed over P4.3 million cash reward to seven informants under its reward system.

During the regular flag-raising ceremony at the PDEA main office in Quezon City, PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac personally awarded the cash reward to the informants identified through their codenames Segul, Mac-mac, Balik Loob, Ebok, Coca, Cold Ice and Jows, who provided vital details which led to the arrest of targeted drug personalities and the confiscation of illegal drugs.

Operation Private Eye , a reward and incentive scheme designed to encourage private citizens to report any suspected illegal drug activities in their community.

Cacdac said that the seven informants, who wore ski masks, were identified only by their codenames in order to ensure their security and protect their identity. All information that went through OPE are being handled with utmost confidentiality.

"Men and women of proven integrity and probity from the business, religious and academe sectors composed the members of the OPE Rewards Committee. They approved in a resolution granting a total of P4,396,663.40 monetary rewards to the informants following a careful deliberation," Cacdac said.

Among the informants, Jows received the biggest reward worth P1,556,995.63 for the information which led to the seizure of 36.7 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, and the arrest of a Chinese drug pusher and a Filipino accomplice last Nov. 29 in Mexico, Pampanga.

Last week, 22 civilian informants also received over P12.9 million in cash rewards under the PDEA Operation Private Eye.
