Zamboanga City, Philippines – Police officers prevented suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas from laying siege on a police station in Josefina town in Zamboanga del Sur yesterday morning.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office 9, said about 30 rebels posing as police officers arrived at the Josefina police station at 6:15 a.m.
Huesca said the guard on duty immediately called for backup when the armed men failed to identify themselves.
The guard’s action prompted the armed men to leave the area.
Meanwhile, in Misamis Occidental, suspected rebels reportedly attacked the police station in the town of Don Victoriano Chiongbian before fleeing with several firearms yesterday morning.
