Couple hurt in ambush

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A couple was seriously wounded when unidentified armed men ambushed them in the town of Sinait in Ilocos Sur last Friday night.

Toribio Bonifacio and his wife Merlita were on their way home on a motorcycle when they were waylaid in Barangay Ubbog at about 10 p.m., according to  Superintendent Marlo Castillo, spokesman for the Ilocos Sur police.

The couple were taken to the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in the nearby city of Batac for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Investigators recovered slugs for caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene. Castillo said the motive for the attack has yet to be determined as of press time.
