Chinese Filipino trader hurt in Manila attack

MANILA, Philippines - A Chinese Filipino businessman was hurt in an attack by a group of armed men in Sampaloc district in Manila on Thursday.

Police Officer 2 Benjamin Blanco of the Manila Police District Station 3 identified the victim as Ricardo Uy, 24.

Blanco said Uy was about to enter a commercial-residential building along Ma. Clara Street when four gunmen attacked him.

Seconds later, a resident identified as Rommel Arcayre hear successive gunshots coming from the building.

Blanco said that according to Arcayre, he saw four men emerging from the building while he heard a woman screaming.

Arcayre and the other residents saw Uy hogtied and injured while lying on the building's garage.

The victim is currently confined at the Infant Jesus Hospital in Manila.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack.
