MANILA, Philippines - Transport groups on Wednesday filed a petition at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), asking for a P2 fare increase amid the rising prices of fuel products.
The transport groups argued in the petition that there is already a need for a fare increase as the price of diesel has already ballooned to P45 per liter.
The groups that filed the petition at the LTFRB's office in Quezon City were The Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, Philippine Confederation of Drivers Organizations-Alliance of Concerned Transport Operators and Liga ng Transportasyon at Opereytors sa Pilipinas.
The transport groups also asked the LTFRB for additional 35 centavos for every succeeding kilometer.
Aside from the higher fuel prices, the groups also said that the prices of spare parts and fees for permits in local government units have also increased.
They also said that noted in the petition that the LTFRB last approved fare hike petition was in 2008.
