Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA,Philippines - Four people were killed and 14 others were injured after a dump truck overtook a passenger jeep in Marikina City, Wednesday morning.

Initial police reports said that among those killed were a motorcycle rider and three jeepney passengers.

The injured passengers, one of whom sustained a slash on the forehead, were brought to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center.

Police said that the dump truck, driven by Bong Dumalagan, overtook on the left side of a passenger jeepney along J.P. Rizal Avenue near Fairlane Street in Barangay Concepcion Uno.

As the jeepney driver attempted to avoid the speeding dump truck, the passenger vehicle hit the road gutter and fell on its side.

The dump truck, meanwhile, plowed through a number of establishments and also rammed a motorcycle.

Witnesses said that the truck was swerving out of control before it crashed.

Police have taken the truck driver into custody for investigation.
