Gunman in slay of village chief falls
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A principal suspect in the killing of a village chief was arrested at his home in General Trias in Cavite on Saturday.
Wilson Lumayog was positively identified by an eyewitness as the one who shot and killed Danilo Monton on Nov. 25 in Barangay Toclong, Kawit town, according to Superintendent Romano Cardino, head of the provincial police intelligence branch.
“Before his arrest, we searched for Lumayog’s name on Facebook and printed his photograph. We showed it to the witness who positively identified him as the gunman,†Cardino said.
Lumayog’s arrest was based on a warrant signed by Judge Aurelio Icasiano of Trece Martires City.
Cardino said the arresting team recovered a motorcycle and caliber .45 pistol from the house of the suspect in Barangay Bacao 2.
Charges of murder and illegal possession of firearm was filed against Luma-yog, who is a nephew of the victim.
Monton was driving home when two armed men shot him at about 8:30 p.m. He was supposed to be in his last term as barangay chairman after he won the village elections in October.
