Koronadal village chapel demolished

Ramil Bajo - The Philippine Star

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines – A group of unidentified  men armed with demolition tools reportedly tore down a Catholic chapel amid protests from worshippers in a village here yesterday.

Catholic residents in Barangay Carpenter Hill, about six kilometers away from the city proper, tried but failed to prevent the men from demolishing the Nuestra Señora dela Remedios Chapel, which was made of light materials.

The chapel was located at the center of a 9,000-square meter property, said to be formerly owned by a certain Mae Garcia of Davao City.

Garcia has reportedly sold the lot to the Aloot family of Koronadal City.

The Aloot family clarified that it was Garcia who allegedly ordered the demolition, which they claimed had the permission of the Marbel Catholic Parish Center here.
