Engineer slain in Laguna attack

LAGUNA, Philippines – A geodetic engineer was killed in an attack staged by motorcycle-riding men in Barangay Dila, Bay in this province yesterday.

Ramon Rito was killed on the spot, while his companion, Tracy Marie Catipon, was unhurt, according to Bay town police chief Chief Inspector Pastor Castillo.

The victim and Catipon were heading for Calamba City in a Mazda car when the gunmen waylaid them at about 6:30 a.m., Castillo said.

“We don’t know if the victim is an employee of the Bureau of Land in Calamba or in San Pablo City. The investigation is ongoing,” Castillo said.

Catipon told investigators that the gunmen fled after killing Rito.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
