Cold front, LPA trough to bring rains over Phl

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Several regions in the country are expected to have rains today due to a cold front and the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) affecting Luzon and Mindanao, the state weather bureau said.

In its 24-hour public weather forecast issued at 5 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the tail-end of a cold front is affecting Northern and Central Luzon.

Metro Manila and the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rains.

Central Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms as the LPA trough is affecting Mindanao.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains and thunderstorms.

PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere in the country, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to north with slight to moderate seas.

PAGASA also warned that strong to gale-force winds associated with the surge of the northeast monsoon (Amihan) may affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon, which will have a rough to very rough sea condition.

"Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," PAGASA said.
