P300K in Yolanda donations stolen

Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY , Philippines   â€“ Burglars carted away nearly P300,000 in cash donations for Typhoon Yolanda victims kept in the cashier’s office of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Church in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur last Thursday, police said.

In a belated report, police said Fr. Antonio Jusayan, the parish priest, discovered the cash donations missing at around 6:30 a.m. last Thursday when he and church workers opened the cashier’s office to prepare the sending of donations to typhoon-stricken areas in the Visayas.

Senior Inspector Ephraim Detuya, San Francisco police chief, said the burglars gained entry by destroying the window grills and sliding window frame.
