Ex-Batangas town vice mayor shot

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A former vice mayor of Bauan town in Batangas was in critical condition after he was shot in the head by motorcycle-riding men yesterday morning, police said.

The victim, Julio Cruzat, 72, who served as Bauan vice mayor for three terms from 1991 to 2000, “is still under observation at the intensive care unit in a Bauan hospital,” Superintendent Renato Mercado, Bauan police chief, told The STAR.

Mercado said Cruzat, father of municipal councilor Roland Cruzat, was on his way to the town hall from his residence onboard a Toyota Revo when he was attacked at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday.

Mercado said police believe the gunmen are hired killers because of the way they pulled off the attack. He admitted though that they were still clueless on the incident.
