Special barangay poll campaign in Zambo City, Bohol ends today

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday reminded candidates in the Nov. 25 special barangay elections in Zamboanga City and Bohol that today is the last day to campaign.

“(Today) is your last chance to campaign. Take a rest tomorrow, campaign shall already be banned,” said Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr.

The Comelec was forced to cancel the Oct. 28 barangay elections in Zamboanga City due to the three-week standoff between government forces and Moro National Liberation Front rebels last September.

The village polls in Bohol were also moved after the province was rocked by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake last month.

Brillantes warned that starting tomorrow, a liquor ban will be in effect in Zamboanga City and Bohol.

He said violating the campaign period and liquor ban constitute an election offense punishable with up to six years’ imprisonment, suspension of the right to vote, and disqualification from holding public office.
