Yolanda death toll rises to 4,015 - NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from super typhoon Yolanda that lashed eastern Visayas is now at 4,015 as more bodies have been retrieved from the rubble, the state disaster response agency said on Friday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that the injured was still at 18, 567 while 1,602 remain missing.

The NDRRMC also said that of the over 10 million people affected in Regions 4-A-, 4-B, 5, 6,7 , 8, 10, 11 and Caraga,  more than 380,000 are still staying in 1,529 evacuation centers as Yolanda flattened around a million houses in the regions.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said that the cost of assistance already provided by the national government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Department of Health, and local government units and various non-goverment organizations is now at P473.8 million.

To date, over 33, 000 personnel of national, local, and foreign volunteer organizations have been in the regions to help in the relief and rehabilitation effort in the battered regions, the NDRRMC said.
