Fire hits Bataan register of deeds

Raffy Viray - The Philippine Star

BALANGA CITY, Philippines – Faulty electrical wiring reportedly caused an almost one-hour fire that destroyed more than P1 million worth of computers in the first floor of the two-story register of deeds building at the provincial capitol compound here before midnight last Monday, authorities said.

Lawyer Amante Capuchino, Bataan registrar of deeds, said the fire destroyed 12 workstation computers, two scanners, two printers, a photocopying machine, and other office furniture and equipment.

The fire was put under control before it could spread to the Bataan provincial jail and the Bataan Press Club, both located at the back of the register of deeds building.

Capuchino said the fire has partially paralyzed his office’s operations as 90 percent of land titles and other documents had been entered into the database of Land Registration Authority’s central office.
