EMB stops Butuan water project
BUTUAN CITY , Philippines – For lack of a permit, the office of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in Caraga region has ordered the Butuan City Water District (BCWD) to stop the construction of its P500 million project in Barangay Taguibo.
The project is being undertaken by the Taguibo Aqua Tech Solutions, a firm tapped by BCWD to finance and build the Butuan bulk water supply project in Sitio Iyao.
EMB-Caraga regional director Metodio Turbella said the firm failed to secure an environmental compliance certificate (ECC).
Turbella said the ECC is important, particularly for projects identified as environmentally critical or located within the environmentally critical areas such as watersheds and protected areas.
He said no ECC has been issued for the Butuan bulk water project, a joint venture project under the public-private partnership scheme between the BCWD and the Taguibo Aqua Tech.
