Comelec surveying Bohol for b’gay polls

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is now surveying the province of Bohol to determine if the barangay polls there can push through on Nov. 25.

But based on initial reports, Comelec Commissioner Lui Guia said there seems to be no need to cancel the elections in the quake-hit province.

“Our people have been doing a survey in coordination with the local authorities. I think there are already available facilities that we can use as voting centers in case we hold the elections on Nov. 25,” he added.

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Bohol last Oct. 15, prompting the Comelec to postpone the barangay polls scheduled on Oct. 28.

When Leyte was battered by Super Typhoon Yolanda, power supply in some parts of Bohol was hampered because the province was sourcing its electricity from Leyte.

But Guia said power is not a concern in the holding of the elections in Bohol since the polls would be manual.
