Journalists among killed in Yolanda's wrath

MANILA, Philippines - At least four journalists reporting from Tacloban City were among the fatalities of monster howler "Yolanda," the National Union of Journalists (NUJP) said.

In a Facebook post, NUJP chair Rowena Paraan said that the "list of media casualties is also building" along with the growing death toll from the tragedy.

Confirmed dead are DyBR Apple Radio reporters Archie Globio and Malou Realino based in Tacloban, among the areas most affected by the typhoon.

Paraan also said that two other radio broadcasters have passed on.

"The news that I have been dreading: that we have colleagues who have died from Yolanda's wrath. They are Allan Medina and Ronald Vinas of Aksyon Radyo Tacloban," Paraan wrote.

At least four other media workers from DyBR have been reported missing, namely Babay Jaca, Lulu Palencia and Jun Estoya.

The group also called on media professionals to ensure their own safety first in covering the disaster.

"Many places have been so devastated and communication is still down that coverage safety should still be a primary concern," Paraan said.
