Village secretary killed in gun attack

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – Two motorcycle-riding men shot dead a barangay secretary and wounded another woman in Datu Abdullah Sangki town here on Tuesday.

Ruth Elumba of Barangay Talisawa died on the spot while her companion, barangay treasurer Anabelle Burton, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Reports said the victims had just come from the town hall of Datu Abdullah Sangki when the gunmen shot them.

Investigators have yet to identify the killers and determine the motive for the attack.

Local officials have yet to confirm whether the attack was politically-motivated.
