Cops, soldiers continuously pouring in Yolanda-hit areas

MANILA, Philippines - Police and military personnel are continuously being deployed to parts of eastern and central Visayas which were ravaged by typhoon Yolanda to help in peace and order and relief operations, the Philippine National Police said on Monday.
PNP public information office chief Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said security forces are continuously coming in to the areas to maintain law and order in Tacloban and Samar where looting has been reported.
He cited that close to 900 policemen, including members of the Special Action Force, will be deployed in these areas.
"Ang aming panawagan ay huminahon ang ating mga mamamayan...hindi dapat itong dahilan na para gumawa ng karahasan...sana di na itaas ang antas o level ng situation dun.Sa ngayon, this is a law enforcement function," Sindac said in a radio interview.
Sindac also called on the several non-government organizations who want to help in the relief or rescue operations to closely coordinate with the local government units.
"Sa mga NGOs, in their eagerness to help, please coordinate with the LGUs kasi nagkakaroon ng interception (of relief goods). Kinukuyog din ng ib ng isolated groups,"the PNP official said.
"We are there to provide security na akma dun sa situation... this situation is handled in sensitive and delicate manner. Hindi natin hahayaang magkaroon ng anarkiya sa mga lugar na 'yun," he added.
Besides peacekeeping task, Sindac said police personnel in the areas will assist the Department of Trade and Industry in monitoring the prices of commodities as there have been reports of overpricing and hoarding of basic goods.
At present, the PNP has deployed a total of 466 policemen in the affected areas such as Tacloban City, Ormoc and Capiz.
