DSWD: Enough relief goods for typhoon-hit areas
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured that there is a sufficient amount of relief goods for all the regions that are expected to be hit by Super Typhoon "Yolanda."
The agency said in a release that 24,450 food packs have already been prepositioned.
"The DSWD-National Resource Operations Center is also repacking 25,000 family food packs for ready augmentation in addition to the 29,874 available food packs," the agency said.
The DSWD has also prepositioned emergency relief resources in the regions along the typhoon path amounting to P178.4 million.
As of 6 a.m. today, a total of 125,604 people have been evacuated preemptively in 22 provinces in the Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions.
Yolanda, which is now considered as the stongest tropical cyclone to hit the country this year, is expected to barrel through Visayas today.
The typhoon was last spotted at 62 kilometers southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar with maximum sustained winds of 235 kilometrs per hour near the center and gusts of up to 275 kph.
