MANILA, Philippines - Police have arrested two suspected Malaysian poachers off an island in Palawan over the weekend, seizing around 10,000 eggs of the Philippine sea turtle, the Philippine National Police said on Monday.
Reports reaching the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame showed that the operatives of Maritime Group in Police Region Office in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) have nabbed over the weekend Ku Vui Hjung and Rayman Bin Abd Rahman, both Malaysians, in Mangsee Island Balabac, Palawan.
The operatives confiscated from the two Malaysians an estimated 10,000 eggs of sea turtle, three sacks of dried sea clams, and two sacks of dried sea turtle meat, the PNP said.
The Malaysian fishermen, now in police custody, are facing violation of Republic Act 9174 or the Wildlife Resources and Conservation Protection Act.
