Man dies after falling off Makati building

MANILA, Philippines - A man fell off the 7th floor of the 52-storey PBCOM Tower on Ayala Avenue in Makati City Monday morning.

Sr. Supt. Manuel Lukban, Makati Police chief, said the man, later identified as 27-year old Christian Sanchez, was declared dead on arrival at 8:47 am at the Makati Medical Center where he was rushed by emergency responders from the Makati Fire Department.

Sr. Insp. Gaylord Tamayo of the Makati Police identified the victim as 26-year old Christian Sanchez of 15 President Roxas Avenue, Signal Village, Taguig City.

Tamayo said Sanchez was declared dead on arrival at 8:35 a.m. at the Makati Medical Center where he was rushed by emergency responders from the Makati Fire Department.

Makati police earlier said Sanchez was identified through his Philhealth identification card. Police said Sanchez jumped to his death at about 8:05 am. and landed along Herrera St.

Police said Sanchez was a supervisor at the Ayala Land, Makati Stock Exchange.

The PBCOM Tower located at the corner of Ayala Avenue and Herrera St. is the country's tallest building since 2000.

According to the Makati Police, prior to his fatal jump, Sanchez was seen by Alvin Mangaliag, a barista working for the New York Cafe, at the cafe area located at the bullding's 7th floor.

Mangaliag told police thet he saw Sanchez opened the left side of the Food Patio, then climbed over the glass railing and leapt.

Serge Montinola who was walking to his office across the PBCOM Tower witnessed how Sanchez hit the concrete pavement and bounced. Montinola said he was just 15 feet away from where Sanchez had landed.

"A few feet more and I would have been right beside him when it happened. I .anted to shout at the usual usiseros crowding around the cops and ambulance to go about their business. Thank God some cop asked them all to leave," he said.

"I saw him bounce off the pavement about 15 feet away from me!" he added.

Police are still investigating if there was foul play in the incident.

But according to the victim's mother, Perlita, her son was apparently acting disturbed in the days that led to his fatal jump.

Perlita told police that her son was apparently depressed after allegedly suffering an eyesight problem that would leave him permanently blind.
