Videoke session turns bloody; 1 dead, 1 hurt

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – A farmer was killed while another one was seriously wounded after their companion in a drinking bout did not like their choice of song and shot them point-blank in a videoke joint in Loreto, Agusan del Sur last Thursday night.

Killed was Glenn Ostos, 31, and critically wounded was Gilberto Bitebon Nuer, 40. The suspect, Richard Avila, 27, was cornered at the house of Loreto Mayor Dario Otaza where he tried to hide.

Investigation showed that the three were having drinks at the videoke joint when Avila did not like the victims’ choice of song.

This resulted in a verbal tussle, leading Avila to pull out his homemade 5.56 revolver and shoot his companions.

Ostos was fatally hit in the chest, head and body, and Nuer in the right leg and body. Police recovered Avila’s homemade gun.

Criminal charges were being readied against Avila who is now locked up at the Loreto police detention cell.
