40,000 flock to cemeteries in MM south

MANILA, Philippines - Almost 40,000 people flocked to  different cemeteries in the southern part of Metro Manila, the Southern Police District (SPD) said Friday.

SPD Director, Chief Supt. Jose Erwin Villacorte said that as of 11 a.m. the estimated crowd was at 36,139 people in cemeteries in the cities of Pasay, Taguig, Las Piñas , Parañaque and the town of Pateros.

He said 2,500 people visited the Pasay City Roman Catholic Cemetery; Pasay Public Cemetery, 6,000; Parañaque , Manila Memorial Park,  5,000; while Loyola Memorial Park,  has 1,875 and Public Cemetery has 1,500.

In Las Piñas, Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery has 3,000 while in Taguig City, the Heritage Park had 2,500 visitors, the Libingan ng mga Bayani has 2,000; while 1,000 in Tuktukan Cemetery; Hagonoy Catholic Cemetery, Bagumbayan Cemetery and in Aglipayan Cemetery had 500.

In Pateros, Garden of Memories Memorial Garden had 500, the Sta. Martha, Pateros Catholic Cemetery had 1,200; San Roque Catholic Cemetery had 250 and Aglipayan Cemetery had 200.

Villacorte said as of now no untoward incident has been reported as police officers continue to patrol  public and private cemeteries in the southern part of Metro Manila.

He added that authorities  confiscated items that are prohibited inside the cemeteries.

Villacorte said that as of 1 p. m., police have confiscated 37 bladed objects , six flammable materials, and three alcoholic beverages.
