Lucy turns over road projects to Leyteños

ORMOC CITY, Philippines – Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez turned over yesterday two major road projects in this city that were started during her first term, as she attended the groundbreaking ceremony of a P20-million municipal hospital building in Palompon town.

The lawmaker, together with husband Richard Gomez and district engineer Lino Gonzales, turned over a 205-meter multi-purpose pavement to the people of Barangay RM Tan led by outgoing barangay chairwoman Judith Marson.

Gonzales said the MPP was funded through Gomez’ Priority Assistance Development Fund (PDAF).

The second turnover was held in Barangay Domonar, where outgoing barangay chairman Armando Marson received the P2.5-kilometer road funded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Gomez’ PDAF.

Gonzales said DA allocated P25 million for the project while Gomez gave P5 million from her PDAF.

He said they maximized the use of the funds to include a five-kilometer road that connects the village to the town of Palompon.

Aside from reducing the cost of transporting farm produce to the city, Gonzales said the travel distance from Ormoc to Palompon has been reduced to 22 kilometers from 70 kilometers.

Gomez urged the residents to take care of the roads so the future generation could benefit from it. She expressed regret that some of her projects might be stalled due to the freezing of the PDAF funds. However, she promised to find ways to serve them.

In Palompon town, Gomez was welcomed by Mayor Ramon Oñate and town officials. She said the funds for the hospital building came from the Department of Health (DOH).
