Losing barangay poll bet kills 3 siblings in Capiz
MANILA, Philippines - A man killed his three siblings in Capiz province after losing in Monday's barangay elections, police said Tuesday.
Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. director of the Police Regional Office 6, identified the suspect as Manuel Arcenas.
Cruz said Arcenas shot to death his three siblings -- Jennifer Nuyles, Evelyn Espinar and Ramon Arcenas -- inside their family's compound in Barangay Manapao, Pontevedra town at around 5 a.m.
The police official said the victims died at the Bailan District Hospital due to several gunshot wounds in their bodies.
The suspect was able to escape after the shooting.
Cruz said that according to police investigators, Arcenas could have been feeling bad for losing in the barangay elections.
He said police investigators also suspect that the siblings' dispute over their inheritance could have been the reason behind the massacre.
Tracker teams have been deployed around the province and nearby areas to hunt down Arcenas.
