MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police on Monday said there were no "serious peace and order concerns" during the conduct of the barangay polls in the country.
PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac also called the election-related incidents that marred the barangay elections nationwide.
"As the polling centers officially closed at 3 p.m.today, all 17 Police Regional Offices across the country reported no serious peace and order concerns in their areas of responsibility.
"Although there were some reported cases of isolated incidents of violence yesterday and today, including 13 incidents over the last 24 hours, these where not at all serious as to have a significant effect on the overall peace and order situation on a national scale," Sindac said.
Sindac added that the security operations for the barangay polls by the PNP would still continue up until "the completion of the proceedings."
"Police security forces are under specific instructions to remain in their posts to provide security to the election activities until after completion and termination of the proceedings," the PNP official said.
As of 4 p.m. Monday, the PNP has recorded a total of 40 ERIs since the election period started last Sept. 28.
Of the total ERIs, 34 were shooting incidents while three were stabbing cases involving candidates and their supporters.
The PNP also reported that a total of 11 barangay kagawads and three barangay chairmen were killed while 13 local officials were wounded since the start of the poll period.
Police also arrested a total of 622 persons for the Commission on Elections gun ban violation and confiscated a total of 516 firearms, 18 gun replica, 200 bladed weapons, 68 grenades, 290 other explosives, and 4,328 rounds of ammunition.
A total of 578 civilians topped the list of arrested gun ban violators, along with 21 security guards, eight cops, six government officials, six soldiers, and three members of a government military group.
Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, 11, Cordillera and National Capital Region reported the arrest of 219 violators of the liquor ban, the PNP said.
