Hanjin assists Zambales folk

The Philippine Star

SUBIC, Zambales, Philippines - – Korean shipbuilding giant Hanjin is assisting distressed communities in Olongapo City and elsewhere in the province of Zambales after heavy flooding and landslides hit these areas recently.

HHIC-Phil. Inc. president Jin Kyu Ahn said the company immediately extended assistance upon the request of the local executives of the affected areas.

Last Sept. 23, heavy rains flooded Olongapo and the towns of Subic, Castillejos, and San Marcelino, causing several deaths due to landslides and displacing thousands of residents.

After the flooding subsided, a leptospirosis outbreak claimed lives in Olongapo and Subic.

“The loss of lives in these areas are unfortunate, and we extend our condolences to the families affected,” Jin said, adding that Hanjin donated at least 200 sacks of rice and assorted grocery items to the affected residents, and also provided boxes of medicine and prophylaxis for leptospirosis.

To help with the cleanup efforts, Hanjin also deployed heavy equipment, Jin said.
