Bus catches fire on EDSA; passengers safe
MANILA, Philippines - A passenger bus travelling on the south-bound lane of EDSA caught fire Thursday morning as it approached Cubao, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
According to the MMDA's Metrobase, the Commuter bus (TXl-836) was traversing EDSA at about 9:40 a.m. when it caught fire.
Immediately, the driver, identified as Florentino Corpuz, guided his 21 passengers out of the bus to safety.
There were no persons hurt in the bus fire, the MMDA said.
The burning bus caused traffic to build up along EDSA as firefighters and rescuers from the MMDA rushed to the scene.
The fire was put out at about 10:20 a.m. and the bus was taken out of the road.
According to the MMDA, the cause of the bus fire is still being investigated by the Quezon City Fire Department.
