Bohol gov't wants barangay polls postponed

MANILA, Philippines - The provincial government of Bohol is seeking the suspension of the barangay elections in the province following the massive damage caused by a major earthquake on Tuesday.

Bohol Governor Edgar Chato said the the provincial government will pass a resolution addressed to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Chato made this statement during a televised meeting with President Benigno Aquino III and Cabinet officials in Bohol on Wednesday.

The Philippine News Agency had reported that the Comelec will evaluate the the situation in Bohol before coming up with a decision on the postponement of the elections.

Aquino visited Bohol and Cebu on Wednesday to personally assess the situation on the ground. Both provinces have been placed under a state of calamity.
