New typhoon enters PAR, named 'Tino'

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon "Wipha" has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was named "Tino," the state weather bureau announced before noon Monday.

The Philippine Atmopsheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that as of 10 a.m., the eye of the typhoon was 1,210 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes.

The typhoon was packing maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 195 kph. It was moving north northwest at the speed of 20 kph.

PAGASA said Tino will not directly affect the country and will not make landfall. Tino is the 20th cyclone to enter the PAR this year.

The weather bureau said that the typhoon will just briefly stay within the PAR and it is expected to exit on Tuesday morning.

The typhoon follows Typhoon "Santi," which left 13 people killed and thousands displaced as it pounded Central Luzon with strong winds and heavy rains last week.
