Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A woman and her housemaid were believed to have drowned on Tuesday while a male teenager was carried away  by the current as flash floods hit 22 villages in this city.

The floods, spawned by five-days of continuous rains, displaced thousands of residents and destroyed three houses in Barangay Pasonanca.

The bodies of Edwina Bernad, regional accountant of the National Food Authority (NFA), and her housemaid Rosanna Favella were found by the search and rescue workers, according to Adriano Fuego, civil defense regional director.

Rescuers were still looking for another resident reported missing in the floods.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, chairperson of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, has asked the city council to declare the city under a state of calamity.
