LEGAZPI CITY , Philippines   â€“ A 12-year-old boy was killed in a landslide while he, together with five other children, was gathering rocks to augment his family’s income in Bulan, Sorsogon last Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Villagers in Calumagon, Bulan town retrieved Noel Hachero, a Grade 5 pupil, from the debris and rushed him to the St. Jude Medical Clinic but he was declared dead on arrival, said Chief Inspector Erwin Doma, Bulan police chief.

The boy’s five companions survived the tragedy.

Benny Recibido, Philippine Information Agency officer-in-charge in Sorsogon, said there was an earlier minor landslide in the area.

In a text message, Recibido said Hachero was separated from the other boys “when he was hit by almost three truckloads of earth.”
