Soldier killed in bar brawl

MANILA, Philippines - An Army soldier was killed while his brother-in-law was wounded in a fracas that erupted inside a bar in Roxas City in Capiz Friday night.

Pfc Eldrin Bornales died on the spot due to a gunshot to the chest while Marlon Palencia, 40, a seafarer, was wounded when a group of men ganged up on them.

Police said the trouble started when Bornales, who was reportedly drunk, threw a glass hitting a customer.

This reportedly prompted the others to gang up on Bornales and Palencia.
